This is an interesting read ……Some Comprehensive Schools more socially selective than grammars
State Maintained schools can be elitist
If ideology is what is directing the current attack on private schools then the proposed policy needs to be reviewed because:
- the state maintained sector will not cope with increased numbers – especially given it is already creaking
- some independent schools earn their charitable status through their rigorous and distinguished charitable work
- some state maintained schools could do better – please digest the above snapshot of Grammar Schools in Kent and the number of free school meals and pupil premium pupils they support
My conclusion remains – develop a policy which expects all schools to educate a given percentage of really needy young people based on a benchmark that embraces:
- revenue /profit
- the regional average for pupil premium and free school meals – schools must exceed this
- pupil numbers

It would be so great to embrace the qualities of every element of our education sector establishing an environment in which all can work together for the good of students, teachers and parents.
By establishing a “Diversity, Inclusivity, and Equality, benchmark for the education sector we will end wasteful disruption of such an important sector for UK economic growth.
