Independent schools are showing a remarkable lack of strategy in tackling what is a significant threat to their status. They are demonstrating that the very thing that I love about them … their charitable status …is not really that important to them. For a moment think about what we will lose and what new pressure will exist in our education sector, and beyond independent school gates, if a structured stand is not made by Headteachers from all types of school to the threatened ideological disruption.
The answer lies hidden in the great and honest work being done by one of the many longstanding educational charities that exist under the banner of independent schools. The Latymer Foundation is 400 years old and it is doing much that is good by seeking to support those young people on Free School Meals and Pupil Premium. This is not sufficiently at the forefront of their work, or the work of the majority of independent schools.
Let’s support the parents in our education sector with strong collaborative strategic leadership, on the key educational issues, achieved by cross sector steering groups.
Where is the coordinated response?
